Primary Care Nurse - RN Extended Practice (EP)

Job Description/Responsibilities

• Masters in Nursing – Nurse Practitioner Stream
preferred.
• Masters of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Stream or equivalent
education as determined by the CRNM for
the attainment of RN Extended Practice designation.
• Current registration or eligibility for registration on the
Extended Practice Register (RN EP) with the College of Registered
Nurses of Manitoba required.
• Minimum of four (4) years in the last six (6) years of direct
related experience in a Primary Care Clinic, community health
nursing, northern nursing, and/or ambulatory care nursing setting an
emphasis on primary care services (primary and secondary prevention,
intervention, maintenance/support, and palliation). A combination of
other nursing experiences may be considered.
• Experience in adult education principles and research methods
preferred.
• Recent experience/certifications in identified area.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and
Trauma Nurse Certifications required.
• Certification in Diabetes or Asthma Education preferred or to be
attained within two to three years of employment.
• Proficient clinical skills in physical examinations and nursing
interventions required.
• Leadership skills, commitment and ability to work within
multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to work, problem-solve, and make decisions both
interdependently and independently as required.
• Effective oral and written communication skills required.
• Commitment to and knowledge of primary care and community health.
• Experience in mental health counseling beneficial.
• Working knowledge of computers and keyboarding required.
• Physical capacity of performing duties related to position;
including assisting clients with physical and mental challenges
during clinic visits, lifting a variety of clinic equipment and
teaching materials and arranging meeting rooms for group teaching
activities.
• Current driver’s license and use of a vehicle for work purposes
required.
